OK, things seem to be getting pretty strange in the Middle East. We have the kidnapping and murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the figurative hands of King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the same time Saudi Arabia is making a huge $6B loan to Pakistan. Both countries have been hailed as "our great friends" in the Middle East. Well, please, don't do us any more favors. While Pakistan has never been an "ally" upon which we could place much trust and should be considered a quasi-enemy while at the same time the US depends heavily on Saudi Arabia and her allowance of American and allied bases. Somewhat incongruous, Saudi Arabi hedging and playing both sides. Seems like much of the Middle East is forming an anti-America, anti-West alliance. Where do we go next if we lose Saudi Arabian land use permissions?

The philosophy in the region is "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" We tend to forget that. And as an adjunct to that, "lying to infidels is always acceptable" We should be basing our decisions on that not on what we would like to have happen.

Nothing is ever certain or a given in this part of the world. Iran and Iraq were both our strong allies at one time. Iraq sort of back to being a quasi ally but only after a war.
