I'm in the industry. It is very important that consumers start learning to STOP running to lowest offer on the table. Insurance companies get ratings (A+, A-, A etc) it's very in depth. In these times of natural disasters, geopolitical issues, macro-economics, a slight spike in hatred and so much more, learn to get an annual review for your planning purposes. Assess who you're doing business with as well not just how much you pay or save. Example, our company will only put companies with A-ratings on our business platform. There's a reason for that. It's about the consumer.

Great comment, Chief. I too am in the industry and am surprised at how little attention is paid to one’s policy in light of how much they pay for it. Everyone should know their agent’s name and, more importantly, they should know yours. We love the consumer that purchases a homeowners policy when they get a mortgage and just pays the premium month after month, year after year without ever shopping for a better product.
Everyone should contact their agent at least once per year (preferably semi-annual) and ask to have your products reviewed. So many things affect price (age, claim history, multiple lines with one carrier etc.) that it is worth a 40 minute phone call twice a year.
Remember, your agent works for you, not the insurance carrier. They should be doing the legwork and finding the best and most trusted insurance at the best price for you and all your assets, not just the cheapest insurance on the market.

Intersting, I just checked and it looks like prior to this event they did have an A- rating from A.M. Best

Scary thought that even though you have insurance your company might not be there. Another reason to be careful about who you choose to go with.
