Tojo certainly needed punishment for the war crimes under his auspices. The Bataan Death March alone required it but we add to that total the rape & torture of women nurses from the Philippines, the beheading of downed American aviators, the waging of war without a declaration while in negotiations, the starving and other mistreatment of Allied POW's, and the huge number of mistreated Western civilians behind the Japanese lines. Civilized nations never do those things.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 29, 1946 Tojo Hideki, wartime premier of Japan, was indicted by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East of war crimes.
the Nuremburg War Crimes process became much more famous; but, the crimes of imperial Japan were horrific in their own evil right. Motivated by Shinto, Japanese soldiers had utter disdain for anybody who would surrender instead of dying.
