Former “Game of Thrones” star Sean Bean recently faced backlash for saying that on-set intimacy coordinators “spoil the spontaneity” of sex scenes. Following his remarks, other performers like Amanda Seyfried and Rachel Zegler have come out in vocal support of the role intimacy coordinators play.
NowThis spoke to an intimacy coordinator, Jessica Steinrock, about why the role is essential to making actors feel comfortable on set.
“An intimacy coordinator is very similar to a stunt coordinator in that we take a high risk scene and we break it down into its safety and character based components,” Steinrock told NowThis. “We check in with everybody who's working on the scene about what their boundaries are, what they believe the story is, what they need for safety and for confidence in order to do their best work.”
