Great story in the men's 10 K tonight at the Olympics. Leonard career came to Iona College from Kenya to join the New Rochelle, NY's strong cross country and track program. Leonard became an eight time All American and two time NCAA champion in 5K/10K. He graduated in 2012.
In 2015 Leonard joined the elite US Army Athletic Training program, becoming a soldier. H e was able to earn citizenship. This summer he finished third in the Olympic trials wearing the Army jersey qualifying for the Olympics.
Tonight he goes out on the big stage of the Olypics at 8:30 PM EST representing the USA.
We talked this week to his coach at Iona College Ricardo Santos.
