Iran deploys Army Special Forces to Syria and Iraq | RealClearDefense

It seems Iran is following the lead of Russia in explore it's commitment to supporting Assad's regime. This is not an effort aimed at protecting it's national sovereignty, the weight of the use of this military force should not be overlooked.

With Russia moving out of Syria, it is becoming apparent that they had more forces on the ground to prop up the Assad regime than had been estimated. Iran's policy toward Assad (Syria) is one of alliance. Assad (Syria) cooperates with Iran in smuggling arms to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

This will be the first time that Army forces – in this case, commandos and snipers of the Rapid Response Battalions – will have operated outside Iranian borders since the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s.
