The problem with theses loans is they often end up in infrastructure projects which do not increase the GDP and have difficulty paying back the loans.

Exactly! Then there is foreclosure and the investor owns whatever was financed. It has happened many time with investments in Africa.

SGT Mary G. - I believe for defaulting, the country owes China, and China owns part of the country. China's imperialism is not based on invasion, but based own defaulted loans.

If it actually happens you can almost guarantee that there will be Chinese money involved. I'm sure the Saudis would not be thrilled by Iran having a more direct land access to their territory.

Not surprised Iran wants to build this as there is no better way to smuggle arms than via underground tunnels.
