Iranian 'spy ship' damaged by explosion in Red Sea

Wondering why the article repeatedly stressed an "unnamed American official" was "saying that Israel had informed the US that its forces attacked the vessel", making it seem as if Israel is answering to U.S.for the action taken. People talking about it are saying it is hasbara, the reason being intention to extort U.S. political intentions regarding Iran. Looks that way to me, too.
