Yes, Genesis is history, but I don't believe that "day", as used in Genesis 1, is necessarily twenty-four hours. I embrace the "long-day" or "day-age" view of Creation because I believe it best explains what we see in our cosmos, such that we can see stars that are 100 million light-years away with the unaided eye. It also allows for plants and animals to have existed before God created mankind, that may have already died off when God created mankind.
