SGT (Join to see), this is the first I've heard of badges. Before going in to the article, I thought it was going to be about personal branding or some of the other creative resumes for marketing and artist-types. All very cool ideas.

LinkedIn has a version of this, as people you know or know you can verify through their experience with you, the skills you possess. Of course not everyone will have conclusive demonstrable proof of your skill(s), but they provide the same source that the article mentions.

I don't know SSG(P) (Join to see), I like LinkedIn for what it is and RP for what it provides, but I don't put a lot of stock in endorsements through social media, especially when they're a one- or two-click approval. When I endorse someone, I like to write about my specific interactions with them so it's more legitimate.

LTC (Join to see) - True also sir. But as the article notes, the badging authority can be anyone also, just like LinkedIn or Rallypoint. So unless the badging authority has some type of universally recognized clout, or there is some type of industry-standard certification, everyone's badge is suspect at some level.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - Ah, I started looking into the Open Badges site after I responded. I even sent the link to a guy in my section because he is interested in computer certifications and the first badge is simple navigation. I see now that there are dozens of organizations who issue badges. It will be interesting to see this evolve or disappear over the next several years.

Interesting concept. Have no reason not to think that this may the bow wave for the future. Also need to note that in todays technology this concept is probably the equivalent of a baby first moving legs and trying to crawl. Is it going to happen, sure but there's lots of bumps and bruises before the process replaces the resume for those doing the hiring.
