It was only a matter of time. The vulnerability of our GPS-based warfighting technology and strategy has not been a secret at all. Books and movies have been written and produced about this topic. Heck it was the basis of a James Bond movie (which coincidentally had a Fake News chief bad guy).

I just figured it would be the Chinese that came up with the technology, as at one point they were playing with aircraft-launched anti-satellite missiles. Clearly the Russians have all but perfected the technology, as their first demonstration was a system that blacked out one of our destroyers in the Black Sea. The writing is on the wall; the question is, will we read it and develop a countermeasure for it in time?

Spoofing tech is old tech. As a matter of process you should plan on anyone at Iran mimitary level and possible lower to have that capability. Further you should plan for, and practice contingencies. We do gps denied enviornment stuff all of the time. CAS and Deliberate targeting will have to rely on laser hosting and INS etc. further map reading will become important again and that FBCB2 may be lying!

Sir: This is an old story. There were GPS spoofers being sold commercially on the open market over 15 years ago. There were GPS jammers freely available on the commercial market over 20 years ago. Primary vendors are now from the Asia-Pacific region. Saddam Hussein had commercially-purchased GPS jammers available for Desert Storm but he used them poorly. None of this is sensitive or anything except open source information. I wrote a paper on this topic during my final active duty assignment at the Early Entry Battle Lab over 23 years ago.
