Yes, even though the Israeli solution may be technologically superior or equivalent (but less expensive) than Boeing's wedgetail, there's the other (hidden) component of national intelligence and trust among the 5 eyes nations. When the RAF buys the wedgetail, they're also buying the trust of 5 eyes, which gives them access to more information than they'd get by themselves. And since the 5 eyes nations won't (or maybe can't, due to message formatting or encryption differences) share with the Israeli jet, the RAF doesn't get as much info. It's the political aspect of war that sneaks into everything.

I see this as a construct of the Global Military Industrial Complex. Nothing new here, I’ll leave my opinion on the V-22 at the door for now.
