How do you know that "...a lot of people, including some people here [RP] have fallen into the that trap that because some of the people who [do] terrible things are Muslims that all or most Muslims are bad people..."? That's a pretty serious charge and I can't say that I've seen any evidence of such a proclivity. Of course, that sort of reprehensible behavior is beyond my ken because I don't practice it. Are you that sort of person? Is that why you anticipate the worst in people?

It is unfortunate that some people look for events to harden preconceived beliefs. Life is full of choices. I choose to be happy, healthy, and wise (or at least seeking wisdom ) the news is full of sadness, hate, and division but having belief in life, love, and grace allows for optimism and faith in those around us. This post has drawn discouraging comments that do not lend to "brotherhood". I hope that positivity will prevail.

The difference is how many Muslims use their religion to excuse their behavior, Christianity routinely denounces actions like this as terrible, to few Muslims condemn these actions while many, many other's hold fast that the father was within his rights as the girls father. (obviously this is more pronounced in the radical middle eastern countries then we see in the westernized Muslim communities) The foundations of the religion also make a huge difference, you won't find anywhere in the New Testament where this is encouraged, you will find many instances in the Hadith.

There are many Christians who "find Jesus" and then sin to their hearts content, like Jimmy Swaggert and Jim Baker. Becasue they found Jesus, all is good. What a crock!

PO2 Peter Klein - True, but the same is said of every group, thankfully Jesus was very clear when he said "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall. enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth. the will of my Father which is in heaven." Matt. 7:21.

Actually what it shows is that bad people will do bad things, no religion required. But, to get otherwise good people to do bad things, religion, ANY religion, makes that a whole lot easier.

The fact is, religion is the most dangerous thing we humans have ever invented.

Religion brings good and bad. If people did not use religious differences to hate each other they'd find (or make up) different reasons.

One great (satirical) example of this is the South Park episode that had a world without religion but where 3 competing Atheist groups fight over which has the best name

PO2 Robert Aitchison - Religion makes it easy for people to justify hate.
