I experienced much the same in Saudi Arabia in August 1990. Dry heat my ass. It was 130 F degrees plus on that hardstand when we were unloading equipment in Dammam. You could not hydrate fast enough or retain any fluid. I tried to rotate my guys into the shade (what their was of it) - but even that didn't help.

I grew up in Florida (I'm aboard MacDill right now) and deployed all over SE Asia, Vietnam, Oki, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, PI. Six months before Desert Shield, my Battalion (3/3) spent weeks in Thailand and we'd get up and run 3-5 miles in the 90+* heat. We were in shape. Mid August 1990, we were offloading our MPS gear at the port of Dhahran. All we could do was lie on our cots in the big warehouse and force drink bottled water. Never saw anything like the Persian Gulf in August.
Reminds me being outside today in Tampa really ain't all THAT bad.
