In grad school at WVU, I did my thesis on Black Lung Legislation. I grew up in a small village where coal was king. We lived adjacent to an abandoned coke furnace. Many in my family worked in the mines for good wages at the time. They also lived in towns owned by the major mine operators. Miraculously, none developed lung diseases?
