This is an interesting read however I think it misses the mentality of how the govt sees its employees. I know a SM I am a number to the govt they don't care who I am or what my interests are. Investing in human capital is so much more than throwing more money at them. It's job satisfaction as well. If your employees don't love what they do or who they work for their productivity won't be optimal. The govt could invest more financially in their personnel if they were willing to reduce the number of personnel and automate their tedious jobs. As a side note those who do work for the govt must understand that they are public servants and the people they serve are also responsible for their pay.

Good points Sir. I've been a public servant for nearly 37 years now and I've never forgotten that the people we serve are responsible for our pay. As a matter of fact every time I look at my LES I'm reminded of it. :)
My comment on the article was, "treat your employees like they make a difference, and they will". That goes much farther than mere compensation.

The vast majority of U.S. citizens don't have the financial literacy to manager their own affairs, so then they demand services and benefits for free. Yes, it's important to consider the source of the income- and if some had their way it would be a volunteer opportunity instead. People do not realize that if they want to receive the level of service/benefits they are seeking, they should be prepared to pay for it. This is why we have trouble passing budgets and are in so much debt. We have not had a plan on exactly how to supply for everyone's wants and needs in a very long time.
