As is always the case, the books are MUCH BETTER than the Tom Cruise movies.

I found the movie laughable due to the fact that in the book series, Reacher is quite large, very strong, possesses lightning quickness, situational awareness and thinks 5 steps ahead of every foe. Tom Cruise fails epically in the size/strength department and even with the technological abilities of Hollywood, they weren't able to fix that.
This might be a cliché, but I think Dwayne Johnson (the Rock, from wrestling fame) or Dave Bautista (the other former wrestler) would have been a better choice to play Reacher. Put a beard on the Rock, and he could look like he just walked off a special ops mission.
PS: Tom Cruise may very well be a 1st class A-hole, but "Top Gun" is still a kick-a$$ movie!

The Jack Reacher novels are consistently excellent... the Jack Reacher movies are consistently dreck.
Yeah... just can’t visualize Cruise as Reacher... i’d vote fir Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana... i don’t see Reacher as muscle-bound as the Rick

Great article. I haven't read the books but my comment about Tom Cruise is if the cast directors wanted someone with a certain charisma, Cruise has that. The Rock has more of a super hero charisma (Scorpion King, GI Joe, Hercules).
