On July 6, 1415, Bohemian religious reformer Jan Hus was burned at the stake in Constance, Germany. An excerpt from the article:
"The stage was then set for Hus’s fateful trip to Constance. The Council of Constance had convened in 1414 to bring end to yet another recent papal schism, as well as address the need for ongoing reform of the church and the problem of heresy—which included both Wycliffite teaching and Jan Hus’s support of it. Hus decided to attend believing that there was little hope for amicable agreement in Bohemia. The Holy Roman emperor, Sigismund, offered him a passage of safe conduct in spring 1414, but Hus proceeded without it. He arrived in fall 1414, then was imprisoned in November due to the presence of his enemies at Constance. Hus’s supporters, including Wenceslas, were finally able to convince the council to hold a public hearing for him in June 1415. Hus expected a theological debate, but he was simply approached with a list of thirty teachings ascribed to him. Even though he did not teach or hold all of them as charged, he nonetheless refused to recant, and in a purportedly hostile rant denounced the council. On July 6, 1415, the council condemned him as a heretic, stripped him of his ecclesiastical vesture, and handed him over to secular authorities, who burned him alive."

There are no longer two healthy parties in America. The catastrophic mistake for our nation is to continue to see the fight as Democrats vs. Republicans, left vs. right. We are at war with an authoritarian movement fueled by former President Donald Trump. It includes many of the 147 Republicans who signed on to treason with their Jan. 6 votes objecting to Joe Biden's win, and it has grown since then.
Donald Trump is fueling an authoritarian movement abetted by far too many Republican senators and House members. We must unite to preserve democracy.

America is exhausted. We’ve gone through the worst presidency in our history, when the very concept of what it meant to be an American was challenged. A pandemic has killed over 600,000 of our fellow Americans, more than we lost in both world wars of the last century.There is a desperate longing for normalcy. At last we have a normal president with a competent administration. But this is not a normal time. American democracy is in crisis.

Thanks for sharing that story of Jan Hus SGT Reynolds. It’s a fascinating period in Czech history and unfortunately is not studied in most American Universities. A visit to Czechia (as the Czech people now wish to be known) would of course include Prague Castle, itself a wonderful museum and monument to Liberty. If a service member needs a morale boost, that person should visit Praque and wear an article of clothing that signifies that person is an American Armed Forces member. Chechians stil celebrate the date in 1944 when General,Patton’s Third Army liberated the city from Nazi occupation. They regard that date as their Independence Day and it’s revered like our own as a national holiday. An American can’t buy a meal or a drink on that day; whatever he wants will be given to him. It’s a wonderful city. I would visit again in a heartbeat!
