No one reported it, the Fighting Fitz is hell on earth, you can not begin to comprehend what this was like in the middle of the night. CO down, XO takes command, radio is taken out, ship sinking etc... The merchant figures out something is wrong then finally turns around. Once they figure out what has happened they call the Coast Guard. The Fitz has civilian VHS comms but no way to contact the fleet.

Not convinced it all went down that way, but the 7th will hold a scathing Board of Inquiry once NCIS, et al, have fully completed their equally in-depth investigations and personally presented same to CINCPAC.
