1SG(P) (Join to see) War was a lot simpler in WWII than it is now. It was simpler in WWII that it was in Korea and Vietnam as well. It was armies fighting armies, navies fighting navies. It was beating your enemy until they submit to your might. I do not think that Mr. Abe should be offering condolences for acts of war. War is destructive. It has a high cost in human life and in materiel. There are no innocent victims amongst military forces. Civilian populations, should always be off limits, but military targets are always fair game in war.

I agree with you on issues of complexity. But Japan's imperial aggression was inexcusable and I think an apology's appropriate.

1SG(P) (Join to see) - Things like the bataan death march, the genocide, the maltreatment of prisoners of war I agree those things should be apologized for. As tragic as Pearl Harbor was, it was a legitimate military target. I have much respect for all who sacrificed their lives that morning, but condolences and apologies for attacking a military target are not amongst the events that the Japanese should feel shame for in WWII.

1SG(P) (Join to see) - Keep in mind that we trained them. We wanted Britain's empire and France's empire demolished and Japan was the tool we used in China to accomplish that. We used Japan to get every goal we set out to achieve. We knew that the British and French were scraping the bottom of the barrel personnel-wise, so aggression in British and French held China was planned and carried out with Japan being the catalyst. Japan's problem would be overstepping their boundries. Kind of like one thief (us) getting mad that another thief (Japan) was stealing too much...
