Before time began, God made the plan for reconciliation between HIMSELF and the human beings he knew would fall. HE had relationship with individuals from Adam and Eve onwards yet many humans sought their own righteousness. In the fullness of time, God came to earth as a sinless infant and grew up to be Jesus the step-son of Joseph and true Son of the Most High God.
Countless, sheep, goats, bulls and turtle doves were sacrificed to make atonement for the sins of men and women. However those sacrifices wee limited in efficacy to past sins.
On Good Friday, Jesus was crucified for our sins past, present and future and made atonement for all who trust in HIM through his shed blood.
On Easter Sunday, HE rose HIMSELF from the dead as the First Born of the resurrection giving us earnest of the hope that lies within us. One day we shall be like unto HIM in that we each shall be resurrected. To God be all the Glory.

I disagree that "The resurrection reminds us that world history will end on a joyful note." It will only end well for believers. For those who reject the free gift of God's love and grace and mercy, world history will end in frightening despair. Nowhere is God's love and grace and mercy more evident and tangible than the resurrection. If it hadn't have been for that, he'd have just been another cult leader leading a group of separatists that the local government had to deal with.

The resurrection is Jesus' proof that he was who he claimed to be. When Thomas doubted the account of others who had seen him alive, Jesus didn't chastise him for not believing, but instead showed him the scars from the crucifixion and the spear, and he even let Thomas touch them. It's my opinion that in the resurrection of believers, the rest of us will not have scars on our resurrected bodies, only Jesus will have them.
