Now that was quite an impressive life. He came along during a period just before settlement really took over the west. It was still, probably, little different that when Lewis & Clark went through there. Even with failing health he lived for 13 years on his farm after 'retiring' from being a mountain man. The article doesn't mention if he was bypassed by the Civil War in his area.

TSgt Joe C. thanks for letting us know Two months before Lewis and Clark begin their epic western expedition, Jim Bridger is born in Richmond, Virginia. Twenty years later, Bridger, heading West along the routes Lewis and Clark pioneered, became one of the greatest mountain men of the 19th century.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on March 17, 1804 two months before Lewis and Clark begin their epic western expedition, Jim Bridger was born in Richmond, Virginia. Twenty years later, Bridger, heading West along the routes Lewis and Clark pioneered, became one of the greatest mountain men of the 19th century.
