Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that March 25 is the anniversary of the birth of Continental Navy during the American Revolutionary War and later in the United States Navy John Barry.
He received the first US Navy commission when George Washington presented it to him in 1775.
Growing up around Philadelphia I became familiar with the Commodore Barry Bridge which I used traveling to and from Fort Dix and Fort Monmouth in NJ

The Commodore Barry Bridge is a cantilever bridge that spans the Delaware River from Chester, Pennsylvania to Bridgeport, in Logan Township, New Jersey, USA. It is named after the American Revolutionary War hero and Philadelphia resident John Barry.

Rest in peace John Barry.

He was a true Patriot, and the following quote says it all;
"John Barry was once offered 100,000 British pounds and command of any frigate in the entire British Navy if he would desert the American Navy. Outraged at the offer, Captain Barry responded that not all the money in the British treasury or command of its entire fleet could tempt him to desert his adopted country!"
