I really struggle to understand this kind of stuff. People claiming to be military when they're not, ok I can see why someone would want to gain kudos - but a legit veteran with a PH? This guy crapped all over his admirable record by being a faker / medals cheat. Why?

Truly sad. You can be the POGiest person on the planet, and you still have one thing going for you: You manned up and joined up, or reported to your induction station when drafted. That is still more than what most citizens of our Republic have done.

Not really related : I'm reading a book on Iwo, my Uncle was medically retired after being wounded there. How do I find his service record , unit etc? He passed 2 years ago.

NPRC - You can request the military records of a direct-relative via them. I requested my grandfathers when I was 17. I think it took about 2 year to get them but I believe the process has gotten better.
