We all know that media... all media, is in the business of selling headlines; the more graphic, suggestive, or conspiratorial, the better. We also know that many in the civilian world don't know how to distinguish between a highly-trained, combat experienced "operator", and the majority of us who did a few years working in largely support, or limited conventional warfare specialties. Say, "ex-military", and the suggestion is someone "trained to kill"... rather than someone who may be mentally or emotional ill, and or plain-Jane evil, with delusions of grandeur.
What's more troubling, is the way such suggestive material could be used in the future. Let's say a "compromise" on the 2nd Amendment results in "increased background checks", or "more stringent" standards on mental health... all of the sudden, anyone who served, particularly in a combat zone, combat arms MOS, or has ever gone to the VA for anything is under suspicion.
As a society, we need to stop looking for "causes", and start working on interdiction. Evil people, regardless of their motivations, will always be among us... what's needed is a population that pays attention to it's surroundings, assesses risks, and proactively thinks about it's own defense.

He lied about Iraq and the automatic weapon. Hes was active duty until 2004 and a light armored vehicle crewman. It is 2019 and his record shows he was involved with law enforcement starting a few years ago.
Without knowing what he was reading, or talking to, I do not know how we are going to know if he was a memeber of an extremist group.
Are his actions extreme? Yes. Suspected murder and shooting at the police is extreme. Does that make him part of an extremist group? We do not have the informtion. Did I miss something?
The Coast Guard guy: 15 weapons and thousands of rounds. How the hell is anyone going to use 15 weapons at once and carry thousands of rounds when repositioning? Or, was he thinking about having a local Claven and being the Grand Cyclops?
Honoable military persons normally do not join anti-American, anti-Constitution goups. IMO. Crazys off their rocker do.
