Kenta: Not Just Any Old Cloth

I thought this was interesting.. Seems the Kente cloth Shaw Pelosi, Schumer etc were wearing were from the Ashanti Empire in Africa. Women were forbidden from making it. One of the Main things the Ashanti empire was noted for was its involvement in the slave trade. Were they showing solidarity with slave traders? Were they aware of exactly what was involved in thier pandering?
