How many of these modern actors will ever make the quality films that Mr. Douglas made almost none. Yeah i know it was a different era but he was of a time when movies could entertain and engage the audience with their performance. A lot of the films and actors of this modern time( not all) turn out instantly forgettable blockbusters that is more consumption than engagement.

Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that December 9 is the 101st anniversary of the birth of WWII U.S. Navy veteran, American actor, producer, director, and author Kirk Douglas. At 1001 years of age he is one of the last living people of the film industry's Golden Age.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941, shortly after the United States entered World War II, where he served as a communications officer in anti-submarine warfare. He was medically discharged for war injuries in 1944.
He is a remarkable actor and he celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary with his wife the former Anne Buydens this year.
"Douglas married twice, first to Diana Dill, on November 2, 1943; they divorced in 1951. The couple had two sons, actor Michael Douglas and producer Joel Douglas. Afterwards, in Paris, he met producer Anne Buydens (born Hannelore Marx; April 23, 1919, Hanover, Germany) while acting on location in Lust for Life.
She originally fled from Germany to escape Nazism and survived by putting her multilingual skills to work at a film studio, doing translations for subtitles. They married on May 29, 1954. In 2014 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. They had two sons, Peter, a producer, and Eric, an actor. Eric Douglas died on July 6, 2004 from an accidental overdose of alcohol and prescription drugs."
Happy Birthday Kirk Douglas with many happy returns!
Kirk Douglas Reflects on 'Spartacus' Kirk Douglas says crediting blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo on 1960's "Spartacus" was his most rebellious move.
