I'm not usually into new age stuff, but this guy is good, especially his Silk Road album.
My kids call this, "Dad's elevator music."

You have me beat. I used to go to a German record shop when we were in Bamberg, 1993-96. The owner turned me on to the Silk Road album, and I've been a fan since then.

1SG Steven Imerman - I was in a bar in Naha,Okinawa and they had it playing through the sound system. So I went over the the stereo to find out who the artist was. I saw the album cover sitting there. It was Kitaro's "Silk Road" album -- the one with the gong on the cover. I went to a record store the next day and purchased that and "Silver Cloud." I was hooked. When I got back from my vacation I learned that Kitaro was not so easy to find in the US. But with time, a lot of stuff became available on CD.
