Thanks SP5 Mark Kuzinski for reminding us that on November 24, 1963 two days after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, President Lyndon B. Johnson confirmed the U.S. intention to continue military and economic support to South Vietnam. He instructed Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, in Washington for consultations following South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem’s assassination, to communicate his intention to the new South Vietnamese leadership. Johnson’s first decision about Vietnam was effectively to continue Kennedy’s policy.
The USA abandoned the presidency of South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem because he was not making sufficient progress in correcting the corruption which was rampant in too many government agencies from national through local.
November 1963 was a challenging time for both the USA and South Vietnam since the Presidents of both nations had been assassinated.

The path down that slippery slope which unfortunately led our Country to years of discord and misery and is even felt today as the benchmark for foreign entanglements we just seem to not be able to avoid.

Bob and Mark the real tragedy in all of this'is I feel we are fighting on multiple fronts with a smaller all volunteer force that are doing multiple deployments with hot spots cropping up all over the globe ,now with more and more Veteran suicides and the current state of VA hospitals being as it is ,trouble is in the wind my friends .

That in retrospect turned out to be a bad decision. Seemed reasonable to some at the time tho.
