Whenever I see the name Brig. Gen. William “Billy” Mitchell I think of the WWII medium bomber that bore his name - the B-25 Mitchell TSgt Joe C.. US Army Air Corps General who became General of the Air Force Hap Arnold certainly helped fulfill Billy Mitchells vision which went from propeller driven bi-planes with machine guns times to fire through spinning propellers [headspace and timing was critical] to the fighter and bomber propeller aircraft of WWII to the jet propelled fighters at the end of WWII through the fly by wire aircraft and stealth aircraft of today.
In WWII bombs were inaccurate and tremendous numbers of bombers were lost with most or all hands. In Vietnam we lost bombers and fighters in dogfights with MIGs. Since that point we have not lost many USAF aircraft in combat; but, we have lost a number of rotary wing aircraft in combat since 9-11-2001.
Thoughts for a mid-September evening. I hope you are all doing well.
