I found that transition from the Military to a Police Officer very easy and 95% of the Officers on our Department were Armed Force Veteran's including the Chief of Police a WWII Veteran. Our uniform standards were strict, proper haircuts, spit shined shoe or boots, no beards, if it wasn't issued You didn't wear it. Even at the Police Academy we had PT, we drilled in Platoon formation. We also raised the flag each morning at the City Hall flagpole. good portion of our social reaction and parties even was with Police Officers and their families. one of the Officer I actually had met before in Vietnam and another, veteran of the USMC had also been at DaNang Vietnam the same time I was. With the exception of the Coast Guard every branch of service was represented within the Department.
