Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 15, 1865 President Abraham Lincoln succumbed to the cowardly assassins bullet.
Andrew Johnson was sworn in as President as soon as possible after the former President's death was confirmed.
Robert E. Lee has surrendered the army of Northern Virginia the week prior but rebels would continue to fight into the next month before all major CSA armies and units surrendered.
