The Democrats, I believe, are more worried about those how migrants (Illegals) may die trying to get around the border wall(or smuggled and sometimes suffocate in tractor trailers or die in the open desert due to exposure to heat or cold or at the hands of criminals) that is already there. Illegal aliens are going to die one way or the other whether or not a wall is built or not because they are endangering their lives by going with smugglers and organized crime. The media is blaming illegal alien child fatalities on the US government while, if I were them, I'd be blaming the Father or Mother who let their kids get sick to begin with on the journey to "El Norte". Getting a seasonal flu shot is not easy to get in Latin America. They are 4th World. I go there yearly to Honduras to see my ailing Mother.
I was discussing this with my cousin who was born in Honduras and who is a legal resident/ Natualized American Citizern CPA living in Orange County, California. There are many reasons that people from Honduras and elsewhere are convinced to come to the u.s. illegally. In the Schism between President Trump and the Democrats, the contractors suffer.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi:
people who are suffering are not just those who may die trying to cross the Wall barrier but those who suffer working for the US government or who are furloughed when the government is shut down especially the entry -level contractors. Maybe we should rethink having contractors be covered during this and future shutdowns and pass this bill. Let's take care of our own people first. Democrats, it appears you to want to take care of those who may try to cross the border first. It is immoral to be against the wall. Let's take care of our contractors and just not those who are trying to get over or around the border wall.
Let us take care of our entry- level workers. The humanitarian issues of the illegal aliens will always be there. We are a nation of laws. Many Hispanics voted for President Trump. Globalism and open borders is not the way to go for Country stability. Let us take care of our government contractors. There are more important issues then no border wall, global warming and climate change. Let's take care of our entry-level contractor employees who don't have a say.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs you can read it now. If you cut and paste an NPR story, the title in front of the https causes a glitch and you can't read or hear the story.

Federal employees will receive backpay when the government reopens. Federal contractors will not, but some in Congress are trying to change that.
