I have long wondered why American parents and film maker are still drawn to these stories. We have plenty of better ones written by American authors that don't rely on the ideological relics of European culture. Kings were brutes who murdered their way to power. Their children are entitled little brats. Queens are either evil or ineffectual. Washington Irving gave us some delightful stories. Dr. Suess too. I have a modest example of my own...

CPT Jack Durish - Captain; For most of history almost all "national leaders" were "brutes who murdered their way to power". That system has been abandoned in at least 30% (but no more than 50%) of the countries in the world today and, in those countries, mostly replaced by a system where the "brutes" have to "buy their way to power".
