Alan K. And rifle isn't easy to conceal carry either. Otoh, I have thought about a pistol caliber carbine since they are easier to shoot accurately and they have negligible recoil. Hey, a HiPoint carbine goes bang when you pull the trigger and you can hit a target witb a 9mm with a 16" barrel and good sights.

CPT Lawrence Cable - The rifle as a first choice, but it's not always possible to have with you. Most shopping malls and office buildings won't let me walk around with a rifle slung over my shoulder, but they don't care too much about the Glock concealed on my hip. It may not be ideal to take on someone at 100 yards with a handgun, but it's nice to know I can if I have to.

SSG Tom Pike I totally agree. However, my normal carry piece is a 380 LCP. While iI used to handgun hunt, bifocals ended that, even my 45 has pretty crappy drop for shooting 100 yards.

You definitely want to do some distance practice. Don't want the bad guys getting close.

I had someone tell me once that there was no reason to practice at a distance, that if you shot someone with a pistol at more than 10 yards you would be convicted of murder. I pointed out that I have been in office buildings with hallways that were more than 100 yards long or what if there is an active shooter with a rifle on the other side of the shopping mall atrium? That rifle armed active shooter is definitely a threat to you at 100 yards away.
