And this would even apply to people that you would not have considered as friends at the time. Another interesting part of the equation are individuals that you would not consider as a friend at the time that you will embrace and support in a time of need. In that regard it is definitely different.

2 of my best friends in the world were 2 guys I bonded with quickly and tightly in Korea nearly 30 years ago. We have attended each other's weddings and one has visited us in the Netherlands since my move, the other will visit next summer after his wife graduates from nursing school. These are guys who I can not communicate with for a long time and when we do talk it's as if no time has passed. They knew me well enough that they considered "kidnapping" me the night before my first wedding, as they could see that the marriage was not going to work (it didn't). When the 3 of us get together we all become "boys" again and our wives (who get along very well) just sit back and let us act like we are 20 again.

The more you are in the Sh*t together, the closer you become. There is a closeness that is tough to describe to anyone who hasn't been there.
