I was a Sea Scout back in the 1950's and no one ever bothered to tell us that we couldn't rescue people. I well-remember one sailboat regatta that was hit by a sudden gale which knocked down or demasted just about every entrant. We worked side-by-side with a Coast Guard unit, diving in (yes, actually getting wet) to help right vessels and bring their crews on board ours to ride out the storm. How times have changed (and not for the better)

The government just wants to control absolutely everything you do, dont they. Do you need a permit to survive now?

My brain kept not wanting to brain as I read that. I think reading this actually caused my IQ to lower. I'm going to say this as someone who comes from a family filled with crazy, those officials need professional help.

The story says it all. Even disasters have a constituency seeking to control the flow of disaster relief money. At least we're not as bad as the UN was in Haiti (under the Clinton's).
