Nearly 50% of unhoused young people in the Kansas City metro are LGBTQ. Although the city has transitional shelters that accept young people, many of those institutions are faith-based, where queer clients may experience discrimination against their gender identity.
Twelve years ago, Scout DeSimio was living out of her car.
For 10 months, she would nap during the day while parked at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. At night, she drove around for hours with nowhere to go.
DeSimio had recently graduated from college and left El Dorado Springs, Missouri, her hometown, to seek greater opportunities in Kansas City. She also hoped to find acceptance.

Let's tell the whole truth...Is it that they won't take them as they identify or will take them as they are biologically born? There could be a legal reason that they don't want to house biological men with youth girls and vice versa. May be a risk and legal issue. Don't just accept the cover story without looking fully into the background.

The whole truth is often over-looked by those that believe their needs outweigh everyone else's needs.

So, if you meet a person in need of shelter, you ask about their sexuality? It is time for churches to ask what did Jesus do? That's what he would do today, they should too

Agree to an extent. HOWEVER, these are minor youths. There are legal reasons there by putting biological men that identify as women with young women. Same with young biological women that identify as men. Do they have seperate quarters for each sex? What does the law state about children under 18? Do they have to report them to their legal guardian/parent? Too many questions and legal risk than to just say open the doors and let them all in. Put biological girls with bilogical girls and biological boys with biological boys and maybe that could work. IMHO.
