LCDR (Join to see) Wow, what a mess. There are some interesting conspiracy theories in the comment section of the article.

I did not read the comments, the collision occurred at 1:30 not 2:30 like the US Gov is claiming today. I am sure they will retract that soon maybe even today. An absolute tragedy and failure of key people doing a simple thing - their job.

MSgt Stephen Council I went back and looked at the comments most of the people that commented are ignorant to how a modern Destroyer operates.

MSgt Stephen Council
LCDR (Join to see) - I agree. I was simply pointing it out as a way to highlight how these things begin and then grow legs and a life of their own.

MSgt Stephen Council - It will be a long and patient wait for the Navy to finish its investigation just like the boat fiasco in the Gulf. But I was Wright on that incident and I think I will be right again here. I am just so pissed that a few people not doing their jobs results in death and destruction of the ship. I can not imagine how violent that collision was. I served on one of those Destroyer and my stateroom was just down the hall from the Captains. Hits close to home so to say.

Shambolic start to investigation into USS Fitzgerald collision
There was nobody on the bridge of a Japanese cargo ship when it struck the USS Fitzgerald on Saturday and the vessel was operating on autopilot, claims an expert with Janes.
