People make a big deal about which branch issues which handgun. But for most military the handgun is a secondary weapon or used for commanders or certain MOS that can't carry a rifle. Pretty much any service sized pistol from a major manufacturer like SIG, Beretta, HK, FN, Glock, S&W, Ruger, ect.... would work just fine in that role. I think we should go like the old British military and just make the officers buy their own handguns.

SSG William Jones - LOL They would want to have a weapons allowance then!
I would want the option to carry a 1911 if we get to choose! Hahaha

TSgt David L. One of our local Sheriff's Departments tried using three different calibers, 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP, but lack of interchangeability sometimes bit them in the ass, particularly if a Deputy ran out of ammo, so they are standardizing back to 9mm, with everyone carrying the same weapon.

SGT Steve McFarland - Ammo is a great reason to be uniform. A common magazine like we had with the M-9 would be handy in a gun fight.

The advantage of Glock's...they just work. When you pull the trigger you want a round coming out of the barrel and going where you aiming. They're simple and you can just about use them for a hammer then turn around and shoot with them.

LTC Ivan Raiklin, Esq. The Marines are already tough. This will make them even tougher.
