Marines ordered to take official photos for no logical reason whatsoever

I'm sure there is a reason. Decedent ID maybe, PR efforts and recognition. One standard photo vice selfies and HS photos. They used to take one at MCRD/OCS, and likely still do. Or maybe not.

Maybe they are just keeping them on file for future reference. Who know? I don't see any harm though. I remember when Sgt's and above had to have photos taken; on front view, one side view to be submitted for their consideration to be promoted to the next rank.
