Chip, the SS Catalina was a halfway decent steamship. It was sold to some people in Puerto Vallarta or some other Mexican port in Baja California. I remember seeing in the 90s but I don't remember seeing it floundered and sinking. There is so much history on this ship and I don't know if this ship is scrapped or not.

Sadly, the ship was scrapped in 2010 but I didn't know that it took military personnel as a shuttle between piers.

In the last 10 years coming to California from Canada, I have probably phone over this airport about four times on the Final Approach to John Wayne Airport where the plane flies over the island to fly into the wind for landing. I have been to Catalina Island a couple times and I even went there when I still use the old 1920 steam ship the SS Catalina. I don't think they're going to extend the runway but, for those of you who don't know this Airport, if you don't make enough AirSpeed, you end up going off a cliff.

LTC (Join to see) - There is Two Islands Off Camp Pendelton. This is the Safe One, The Other One is San Clemente that I've been involved in Shelling the Hell Out Of. You Couldn't Pay Me Enough to Visit San Clemente considering what I've Done To It! I Don't want to be an "Accident".
