Mattis is wise by doing it this way, IMO. He knows that reorgs just cause more bureaucracy--realigning AF assets will minimize this. He's seen a lot of reorgs I'm sure. Worked with a smart guy who said something I always remember: When you are thinking reorganization, the key is asking (1) from what, to what, and (2) how will that be different than what we have now, in terms of real added capability?

Mattis would slow roll this just like the trans ban if the VP wasn't "chairing" this. Now it becomes a more public spectacle he has to make effort in. I'm still going to wait and see how this hammers the technical manning from all the branches, and what each branch asks in return just to get back to where they were when there were only five (four to be honest). Three if one admits the USMC is part of the Navy.

It's easy to take away knowledge, it's damn near impossible to replace it.

SSG Warren Swan - I've never seen a reorganization handled yet that didn't bring on more problems than it solved. I totally agree with the wait and see.

"Mattis has long opposed creating a new military service in part because of the costs associated with a new civilian bureaucracy. He changed his stance in recent months after Trump indicated this was not up for debate".....don't listen to the guy who has used more time on leave than you do in the presidency. This IS a cluster in the making. To take recourses away from other branches (Air Force) to stand up this "Space Branch" is a slap in the face of a branch who has it in their mission they will take care of space now. If it ain't broke, lets really break the hell out of it, and make something "new" and a waste of time.

Does anyone know how they're going to get all those spacecraft online for PMCS, inspections, dispatches, and Senior Enlisted hell raising walk through's. How does one do a pass in review in space? Can I still do DITY move if I PCS from Mars to Pluto?

Susan Foster - The resources & technology. They already have a launch facility to be used. NASA can maintain their research function, but there's no reason why the facilities cannot be rolled into a military function, too.

SSgt (Join to see) - I'm sure they would be happy to have the defense $$ to help them maintain their launch facility, as long as they get to maintain control. Good point.

Susan Foster - yeah...I don't know how much control they'd get to keep. Maybe 50/50...lol. I mean, we know how the gov't works.
