I didn't have any issue with the Bronze Star and the Service vs Valor distinction. I had any issue with the MSMs in theater being used as consolation prize for those who weren't "popular" enough to get the Bronze Star.
Honestly, the whole "C" device seems cheesy and unnecessary. My.02 cents.

LTC (Join to see) I'm not sure how I feel about the "C" device, but I'm glad to see they are reinforcing how the Bronze Star was originally meant to be an award for those who saw combat, and not simply meritorious service. I have never been awarded either a BS or MSM, despite 27 months in country (Iraq) with over half that time on a PSD team involved with frequent combat actions. In that time I watched TOC personnel and the "higher ups" receive blanket Bronze Star awards, much to my displeasure. Needless to say, I'm happy with the change in distinction.

I propose a "Z" device for those who slept through most of their deployment!

Maybe you should read on the award, that is what it was designed for originally.

THE BRONZE STAR IN ANY FORM IS A COMBAT DECORATION.
THE ARMY SAYS THE BRONZE STAR FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE IS FOR NON-COMBAT REASONS !!
THE ARMY SAYS THE ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL IS A NON-COMBAT DECORATION ONLY IF ITS AWARDED WITH A V-DEVICE THEN ITS FOR COMBAT.
THEN WHY DO THEY AWARD AN ARMY COMMENDATION FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO INFANTRY SOLDIERS THAT ACTUIALY ENGAGE IN COMBAT AND AWARD THEM A ARMY COMMENDATION FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE WHICH IS NOT A COMBAT AWARD ?????????

So while were on the subject of awards; the MOH needs two witnesses, why does the CAB need a bazillion?
