If they are looking to save money I do not understand how reduction of Health Care personnel will accomplish that. These people take a lot of the responsibility for Retiree Health Care that will shift elsewhere if the personnel are not there. I will never be convinced that a military Med Tech is not significantly cheaper than a civilian nurse, or a military health care group is not cheaper to operate than a Doctors private practice if Retirees have to switch.

Here in our area, they don't want retirees in any of the base medical facilities

Lt Col Charlie Brown I guess I am lucky so far, I drive almost 40 miles to Wright Patt for me and my wife's health care and prescriptions. Now that I am on Medicare we are worried we'll be required to find a new Dr in our area but all our Med Records are with the military.

The stupidity is strong with politicians today. I guess our military and military medicine are headed towards the Jimmy Carter Era, when military readiness waned to dangerous levels.

And it takes quite a while to get people trained up to do what is needed on the battle field or in the contonment area Lt Col Charlie Brown , like they got rid of mess teams, leaving everything up to contracted cooks .

This unfortunately is always the easy answer. Medical force is seen as an easy cut. Do more with less. What will happen… commands will give each facility their share of the “cut”. the first cut will be unfilled positions… then it will be cutting those slated to PCS in. If that doesn’t cover it… next will be by quota to different medical AFSC’s to give up slots. Crappy way to run a military… but if they have to cut services they will. First will be those they don’t have to provide… retirees and usually OB care. Have never seen a pediatric cut… but you never know. Hopefully this will go away quickly as all the other ones have!
