What's in a name? Apparently, quite a lot. I was 52 before I learned how Jack became a nickname for John. Interested (all you Jacks out there)? Read on... John is the Greek translation of the Hebrew name Yacov. In English, Yacov was translated as Jacob. Thus, Jack and Jake are equally nicknames (derived from) John and Jacob.

Interesting article, CPT Jack Durish. My father’s given name was Jack. In college, he had a professor call the roll and asked for John Curlee. My father answered,and said his given name was Jack. The professor argued that Jack was the diminutive of John, and my father had to answer to John. The professor said he’d count my father as absent otherwise!
