That's because they are using BMI as a justification for their statistics when BMI is not a proven method of result for healthiness and fitness. I'm 6ft 4 255lbs and I'm way over my BMI, I would rate my current physical health/fitness of about 60 out of 100 in terms of fat to muscle, cardio to weight lifting as good. Meaning I have allot of muscle mass, strength, medium cardio and the only fat I primarily hold is on my sides. However overall I'm in good shape, but the military would define me as obese regardless of still having undering 39" waist and passing the AF pt test with a 90. If the military did an accurate body fat percentage test with calipers then you would have actual information to properly access the current obesity of the military
