Revived? This project is from 2011. Not sure I'd call a 6-year-old fork and recode a revival anymore.
As for the specifics of the project, since that time, every browser has gone multi-tab and recent Win/Nix distros allow for window stacking on the taskbar. I'm not sure how relevant something like this is anymore.

Let's see: according to its own description, it makes the "minimize" functionality of a window send the item to the tray instead of minimizing to the taskbar as is standard. It also allows for overriding the "close" function to also send windows there. It doesn't say that it fully allows for replacing the listing of the app in the app panel, though that's possibly an added use case. If you're going to claim I'm misunderstanding the clear listing of the app, as well as your own words, it would help to be more specific. My personal opinion, as alluded to before, is that I see little added utility in any of it, though, because code changes at the OS level since the days when this app was originally developed (both the revival in 2011 as well as the true original back as far as 2005-ish) have negated the vast majority of any benefit derived.

And it might have been more helpful in the first place to link to the most recent code, rather than the 2011 version. Here's the latest update, direct from Mozilla's add-ons page. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/minimizetotray-revived/
Minimizes windows into the system tray.
