I am pretty good at spotting scams, but I few years back the wife and I were in Gatlinburg at our hotel when the room phone rang. It was about 2AM and the guy on the phone claimed he was the night manager and their computers went down and they need our information again. Half asleep, I started to give him name and address, then he wanted payment information and that set off my Alarms. Aside from the fact I don't give card information on the phone unless I contact the site, this room had been reserved through Hotels.com and I knew they didn't have my payment information. He threatened to call the sheriff, told him to go ahead. He hung up after that.
