I remember this very well.
The closest encounter I ever had with a volcano was when I was in Rwanda for a mission in 2015 and the local volcano went off, closing the airport. We had to make our way over land to Malawi and hop on a C-12 to get back to Djibouti. It actually made JTF-HOA create a new battle drill - React to Volcanic Eruption.

I was in Olympia Wa at the time. I remember hearing a huge BOOM. Thankfully only got a dusting of ash.

I was in BCT at the time, but my grandmother sent me a lot of colored pictures with the story. I was twenty at the time. PO1 William "Chip" Nagel

SGT (Join to see) - Thankfully I was bit North and West, On Adak Next to Great Sitkin was just letting a little bit of Steam Off. I'd get My Up Close and Personal with Mt Pinatubo. That Sucked.
